“Being healthy is about two things: it’s about fixing things when they go wrong, but it’s also about trying to make sure they don’t go wrong in the first place.”
I came across this quote somewhere, and that got me thinking [Ya, I know, sometimes I think too much :-) ]
I asked myself what does ‘being healthy’ mean to me -
- is it a lack of annoying physical symptoms
- is it not having with any chronic ‘dis-ease’
- is it not catching the flu, cold, cough, fever (acute illnesses) easily
- is it not being in pain
- is it ‘preventing illness’
- is it popping tons of supplements, vitamins, going around wearing a mask over my mouth and nose, denying myself any so-called unhealthy foods, all the time worrying that I would fall sick
OR
- is it about being healthy on all levels- emotional, mental, spiritual, physical
- is it about waking up full of energy looking forward to the day ahead
- living each day at my best, not just in earning my living but making a contribution to others
- feeling emotionally centred
- feeling mentally alert and agile, and
- physically strong and able to accomplish all the things I want to do each day
I decided that a lack of disease or symptoms is not the meaning of health. For me, Health means Life itself. Our ancestors were right when they said “Health is the Real Wealth”.
Feeling happy, confident, calm, looking forward to each day, enjoying and loving what I am doing, having relationships where true mutual respect and love is present, being in the moment not hung up on the past not worried about the future, and so on…….
So, I have just raised the bar for myself.
How about you? How are going to define what ‘being healthy’ means to you?
Think about it.

I see so many emotional issues in people I come across. From stress-related issues to depression to relationship issues to parenting issues to inability to let go of the past to procrastination to being held back by fear and anxiety, the list is endless.
Even the most balanced person I see has emotional issues that prevent him/her from becoming more alive, more giving, more spiritual.
This got me thinking.
I asked myself - How can I reach out to more people and show them they don’t have to struggle with emotional issues, and that simple, easy, natural solutions like the Bach Flower Remedies can help tremendously?
The ideas came……
- give free awareness talks for people to know such remedies exist and how they can help (if you’d like to know when I will be giving the next free talk in Singapore, please drop an email via this Contact Form.
- teach people to become familiar with these remedies and learn how to use them at home
- teach people that emotional healing is actually easy and a MUST for them to move forward in life
- show people that they have the power to choose their own path to emotional healing
So, I got working. The project took some months of gestation and has recently taken birth.
“Change Your Emotions, Change Your Life” workshop
I am very, very pleased to have put together a live workshop to help people identify their stress levels, understand their own negative or toxic emotions, learn how to use the Bach Flower Remedies to manage stress and clear emotional baggage, for themselves and for their family.
I am terribly excited about launching this workshop in Singapore.
I hope to also offer this program online in the next few months for those that cannot come to the live program.
I really, really, really want people to learn about this wonderful emotional healing system and help themselves and their near and dear. I am offering it at a very reasonable price in order to reach out to as many people as possible.
It is my sincere wish that every single one of us leads a life filled with positivity, confidence, happiness, abundance, inner calm and peace. I truly believe that my workshop and/or online program will help people achieve just that.
Watch out for more details in subsequent posts.

Source: Google Images - ‘Rescuing Hug’.
I came across the above picture when I was searching for some other information. While I cannot vouch for the authenticity of the story, it still touched my heart and I wanted to share it with you.
This picture and the story it contained reminded me of the awesome power of the human spirit and the human touch. No matter how many medicines, procedures,vaccines, alternative medicines and therapies we come up with, it is ultimately the human spirit and connection that really heals us. The medicines, procedures and therapies can help but what most of us really need is someone who understands, who empathises, who hugs us no matter what.
So, even the poorest of us can help someone to heal. All it takes is a hug or a smile or a warm human touch. Go ahead, and embrace those you love.
Let’s never forget this.
(PS: If you have no one to give you a hug, check out Paul Hoffman’s song ”No Matter What”. Listening to it makes you feel like someone just gave you a big bear hug and said ‘You’re OK’.)

When was the last time you slept really well?
According to the 2009 results of the National Sleep Foundation’s annual Sleep in America poll, 64 percent of adults in the U.S. have trouble sleeping at least a few nights a week, and 41 percent say it’s a nightly occurrence.
What’s more, the same survey found that women are 10 percent more likely than men to report insomnia.
So what’s causing you to regularly lose sleep? Experts say that they most likely cause is Stress. Whether it is children, sick parents, job (or loss of job), lack of time, lack of money, relationships (or lack of meaningful relationships), state of the economy or the zillion other issues that we deal with each and every day, stress is a part-and-parcel of modern living.
So, short of giving up everything and going to live in an Himalayan ashram (or some such place), what can we do?
Well, we could try Valium (and worry about its side-effects or whether we would become dependent on it), we could practise meditation (if only we had the time………), change our attitude and stop worrying (easier said than done……) or we could find easy, simple, natural remedies that can help us get good sleep.
Welcome to the world of Homeopathy. Homeopathic remedies for Insomnia work gently, safely and effectively. While you can try the following remedies at home, if your problem is a chronic (long-term or serious) or you have a medical condition that causes your sleeplessness, please consult with a professional homeopath.
Top remedies for Insomnia are -
Kali Phos 30c or 6x - for mental strain or overwork, restless mind, business or job worries that plague the mind and cause sleeplessness.
Coffea Cruda 30c - for mental excitement and nervous stimulation, e.g. about an upcoming event; for sleeplessness from overuse of caffeine; for very light sleepers
Passiflora 30c - Useful for most types of insomnia.
Cocculus 30c - For those who are “too tired to sleep” from over-exertion, jet lag, disruptive work schedule or long-term caring for a sick relative.
Nux Vomica 30c - Sleeplessness from over-indulgence in food, alcohol or other stimulants; from overwork. light sleepers who wake up around 3am and toss and turn. Often impatient, irritable, fidgety. Sleeplessness in alcoholics.
Ignatia 30c - Insomnia due to grief, loss or sadness. Very light sleeper with lot of anxious thoughts.
Select the remedy that best fits your symptoms. For detailed instructions on using the selected remedy, see my blog posts on “How To Use Homeopathic Remedies At Home Part 1″ and “Part 2″ posted on 20th and 23rd Sept 2008.
You can also try the Bach Flower Remedies listed in my post “Flower Remedies for Insomnia” dated 16 Dec 2007.
Wishing you peaceful, relaxing sleep…..

Hello everyone
Allow me to apologize to you, my dear readers, for the extremely long delay since my last post. I had been meaning to get back to writing but got tied up with a whole host of other things.
One of the things I have been working on is developing a live workshop and a home-study course on ”Managing Stress and Mastering Emotions with Flower Remedies”. It has been an exciting experience for me to do this. I am now working on putting it on the web soon. More about that later.
Another project I have been working on is developing a system of doing client consultations via the internet (online consultation) for those who cannot come to my clinic or those who live in other countries and would like to consult with me from the privacy and comfort of their own homes. This facility will soon be available. Please check it out when it becomes available.
I will resume writing on specific health issues women face and how they can use Homeopathic remedies at home to help themselves. Obviously, only some conditions are suited for self-treatment at home, and others will require professional diagnosis, advice and treatment. I will highlight these as we go along.
As a first step, please see my next post on “How to Use Homeopathic Remedies at Home” in which I give guidelines and detailed advice.
As always, I would love to receive your feedback and comments. Please leave a comment, a compliment (or constructive criticism !!). No spamming, please.
Yours in health.

Homeopathy and Weight Loss: The Emotional Connection
By John C Cassone, MS, CNC
“Just eat less.”
The elements of weight loss are so simple that it becomes obvious that there is much more to the issue of weight gain than just the calorie. I have researched and experimented with hundreds of diets during the last sixteen years with clients of all shapes and sizes. I know what works. But, knowledge is not the problem. All the trendy diets are really just various strategies to get you to eat less. In other words, the diets themselves offer nothing new. Nutritionists create lengthy explanations of their approaches just to get you to believe in their new idea long enough for you to begin their program of eating less. If you believe in it, and you start to eat less, then you will lose weight. But generally, at some point, you will start to eat more again and gain weight back. So what’s the real problem? Why can’t we eat less?
Most people are aware that there is a significant emotional component to over eating (let’s define overeating as eating beyond our actual physiological need). The discomfort of this emotional state seems to be proportionate to the need to eat. In other words, the overeating is the compensation or the survival mechanism for dealing with the emotional state. Permanent lifestyle changes will not last unless the state that the person is compensating for has been reduced. In the brain, the neuro-chemistry of compulsive overeating looks very similar to drug addiction. Unfortunately this compulsion to overeat can be extremely damaging and self destructive leading to all kinds of modern day illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and obesity. So do you go to a shrink, a nutritionist, or a 12-step meeting?
Treat the whole person. Homeopathy is a complete system of complementary medicine that has treated hundreds of millions of people world wide for over 200 years. It goes beyond traditional medicine and treats the entire person. A skilled homeopath will study physical pathology as well as mental and emotional patterns and sensitivities. The initial appointment usually takes up to 2 hours. By taking the total organism into account, a complete picture can be observed. On this level, treatment can be profound and lasting. Because homeopathy takes into account mental and emotional states, it is uniquely successful at treating anxiety, depression, and other mental or emotional states. Homeopathic remedies are made from highly dilute natural substances that trigger a massive healing response (almost like a vaccination). When you are taking a well prescribed homeopathic remedy, you will begin to feel a sense of wellness in all areas; it has a global response. Once the disease state begins to decrease, it becomes easier and more likely to stick to a basic weight loss strategy long term.
The conclusion that I am making is that excess weight gain is actually a disease state. It is not just physical, not just mental, and not just emotional. It is the sum total of an unhealthy pattern of disease effecting every area and resulting in the symptom of excess fat deposit. Effective long term treatment must address the whole person in addition to providing basic lifestyle programming, direction, and accountability.

Extracted from an article entitled “Perimenopause : the Beginning of Hormonal Change”, by Dr. Marcelle Pick, Obstetrician & Gynecologist [www.womentowomen.com].
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In integrative medical circles, there has long been recognition that a transitional period of time exists before menopause, which is different for each woman, when fluctuating hormones may cause her serious distress.
Thankfully, conventional medicine has caught up and we now have an official name for this passage in medical textbooks: perimenopause — defined as a transition period that precedes menopause, as in “pre-menopause,” which is symptomatic of hormonal imbalances and fluctuations in a woman’s body.
Symptoms of perimenopause can begin as early as 10–15 years before menses completely stop. Women in their late 30’s, 40’s and early 50’s may transition in and out of a perimenopausal state many times before they finally enter menopause. I
f you are currently experiencing symptoms such as irregular periods, heavy bleeding, hot flashes, sleep disruption, headaches, dry eyes, vaginal changes, hair loss, and weight gain, or extreme emotional distress, you may be relieved to know that these are all common signs of perimenopause.
Along with the more obvious changes listed above, many of my perimenopausal patients find their short-term memory impairment or a lack of focus to be very irksome. These cognitive effects of hormonal imbalance are frequently overlooked in mainstream discussions about perimenopause. Yet fuzzy thinking and an inability to multitask can definitely be traced to your physical state, as can increased anxiety, fatigue, depression and drastic mood swings.
These symptoms are actually signals being thrown up by your body to make you stop in your tracks and take notice. Women often remark on the brain fog that comes over them after childbirth, affording them only the attention span to focus on their new baby. A similar phenomenon occurs with the hormonal fluctuations leading up to menopause — only this time the miasma of your hormones is telling you to stop and pay attention to yourself!
It may be reassuring to remember that a woman’s body is always in flux, always changing, and never more so than in the years that characterize puberty and perimenopause. In the same way you can be “pubescent” you can also be “perimenopausal.” But these are just words, not a rigid definition of who you are, what your body is capable of, or who you are going to be.
Hello everyone
In my last post, we saw how women build up high levels of stress in the quest for “superwoman”-dom. Today’s post, although not directly related to health, shows how we can manage stress by taking small steps. I hope this will inspire you to apply this idea to your life.
To your best health!
Set Realistic Goals
by Mac Anderson
For all of us there are times when we’re overwhelmed. There is too much to do, and too little time to do it! This, of course, causes stress; and we all know…stress is not good! When I was a freshman in college I learned an unforgettable lesson.
I was having a rough week when there was a lot to do and very little time to do it. I was overwhelmed. I panicked. That night a friend stopped by my dorm room. When I told him my problem, he said, “Mac, I’ll share something with you that my grandmother told me a few years ago. She said to always remember: ‘Inch by inch, life’s a cinch. Yard by yard, life is hard.’”
I said, “Bob, here I am drowning in work and your lifeline is a quote from your grandmother. Come on!” After he left, however, those twelve little words kept dancing in my head.
I took out a piece of notebook paper and listed all the things I had to do in the next three days. That night I began knocking them off one by one. Three days later I took out that paper and marked through the last thing on the list. It felt great! And then I took out another piece of paper and wrote down the words: “Inch by inch, life’s a cinch. Yard by yard, life is hard.” I then folded the paper and put it in my wallet. As many of you know, I’ve been collecting quotes ever since.
Hi there
These “words of wisdom” have been hanging on my wall for a long time. I do not remember where I got them, but want to share them with you today.
I asked for strength and God gave me difficulties to make me strong.
I asked for wisdom and God gave me problems to solve.
I asked for prosperity and God gave me brawn and brain to work.
I asked for courage and God gave me dangers to overcome.
I asked for patience God placed me in situations where I was forced to wait.
I asked for love and God gave me troubled people to help.
I asked for favours and God gave me opportunities.
I received nothing I wanted. I received everything I needed.
Think about it, if you started looking at life and all its upheavals in the spirit of the words above, how much better would your emotional health be. Would you get as stressed out about things as you do now?
Yours in health!
